GUEST POST/ GIVEAWAY: Autumn Jordon

I love the television show Diners, Dive-ins and Dives. It’s one of my favorite programs. I can watch D, D &D every night and the same episodes over again. A dream vacation, for me, would be to go across country, stopping at places Guy visited, and chow down on the yummy food he was treated to by the chefs. I’d have to walk to the next restaurant, or roll, because I know, without a doubt, I’d be hoisting mega saddlebags in no time. As a writer whose job is to keep butt in chair, sampling tons could be very bad.

What draws me to D, D & D is the unknown goodies coupled with the familiar, and the program is a learning experience. I’m sure if you’ve watched you know of what I speak. Some of the foods the restaurateurs prepare I’ve never heard of before. Some I don’t want to think about ever again. I give kudos to Guy for trying the very unusual and finding something nice to say.

I love learning about the unique spices used to bring distinctive qualities in meats and veggies. And there are more ways to prepare foods than just throwing it into a pot and warming it on a stove.

By now you’re wondering what the heck this has to do with romantic suspense, right? Watching, D, D & D is a lot like coming to this blog. First, Guy seems to like a lot of different foods, but I truly believe beef is true love. Where Guy visits and samples dishes, you the reader came to this blog because you’re thinking you’d like to sample, or at least window shop for a new romantic suspense. Romantic suspense is your beef. And here at Riverina Romantics during romantic suspense week you have a smorgasbord of the genre you love.

Our styles and voices are unique. A few of us might pick the same topic as a foundation for our stories but we approach the subject from distinct angles and dissect the issue in different ways and to various levels. For example, my new release, Seized By Darkness, is about human trafficking, a rising transgression. I choose to write my story from the victim’s, Nicole’s perspective. Nicole is not a likely heroine, since she was held captive for eight years and forced to become the mistress of a mafia lord. But there was no other way I could write this story and show the victim’s heartfelt emotion that I wanted to convey. The story was Nicole’s. Over the years, the girl turned woman has seen horrific acts and has endured much, but she is a survivor with a capital S. She is a lioness who wants a normal, happy life outside of hell for the child she bore. She never loses hope of enduring, but she holds no hope of being truly loved by a good man. Enter in U.S. Marshal William Haus, a great guy with lots of heart.

I could go on and tell you the whole story, but I don’t want to spoil your reading pleasure. To me,Seized By Darkness is the perfect combination of suspense, emotion, and romance. It’s Guy’s beef seasoned and prepared perfectly. The novel released in July and is now available on Amazon and B&N in both digital format and paperback. I hope you’ll check it out.

Now, I have a question, and for those who answer you will be entered into a contest where I’m giving away two e-copies of Seized By Darkness-from either B&N or Amazon. Okay, the question; What is the scariest person you’ve ever come in contact with and why did he or she make your hair stand on end?

Another contest, join my newsletter at www.autumnjordon.com and send me a message stating you’d like to be entered into my ‘Be My In My Next Book’ contest where your name will be used as a character in my next book. I’m not promising to kill you off.

  1. Scariest person I ever met? How about almost met? I lived in the Philippines when I was younger. As a half white child, it was assumed that I was probably a military brat (which I was). We were warned to be careful because it's a third world country and people could kidnap us and hold us for ransom.

I was standing outside of a bank down the street from our subdivision with my little sister waiting for our friend who'd gone further up the road to the local supermarket. A man walked out of the bank and stood about 100 feet away. I noticed him staring at us and started to get very uncomfortable. I took my little sister's hand and started walking toward our home. He followed, so we ran toward our neighbor's house. He followed until he realized we were going to make it to our friend's home. He disappeared by the time we dragged our friend's dad out to check for him.

That was extremely scary. I think I was only 8.

  2. Oh, katsmeow, that is a scary story. You handled yourself well. You were a kickass heroine at eight. Awesome! It's cool you're a brat. So I'm I. Thanks for sharing and kicking this blog off to a great start. Good luck in the drawing.(((Hugs)))

    1. Aww! Thanks. We brats become hearty types in times of crisis based on circumstance and necessity, I think. Meant to tell you, DH LOVES Guy Fieri and Diners, Drive Throughs and Dives. He's headed to Chicagonext months. One of the featured places is around the corner from my sister's out there. He's planning on checking it out, LOL!

    2. LOL. I'm sure he is in for a treat. I've been to two in the Phoneix area. One was Mike's Big Breakfast. The best waffle I ever had. It was worth the hour wait to get into the small (seats 22) place.

  3. Thanks for a great post and giveaway! Congrats on the new release! Ummm... I don't know if I've really met anyone who scared me. I think that I may be a bit jaded as I work in healthcare and started out at a trauma ER where we got in people of every shape and form. I've also been lucky enough to never have been in a scary situation where I was alone or in danger.

  5. I can't say I've been around anyone who truly scared me that much but I've been around people who give ne the creeps. When we were younger we found out a man we know was a child molester and he was abusing a family friend. It was very upsetting to know that we were around someone like that.
Your book sound really interesting. I will add it to my TBR pile.

    1. Ah, that is so sad, Lori. I hope those he abused received counseling and are fine today. It amazes me how some people can make others feel they are at fault for things they didn't have control over. ;>(

Thanks for commenting. I hope you enjoy Nicole and Will's story.

    1. Maybe you had a stalker or maybe he lost his wife in a tragic accident and you reminded him of her when they first met, or maybe his daughter ran away and it's years later again you reminded him of her. Or maybe he thinks your his child's elementary teacher, moonlighting, and you just failed his son. Or maybe he was a hollywood scout and you'd be the perfect woman to play opposite Hugh Jackson. Hmmm See that is how my mind works. LOL

Thanks for commenting, kimbacaffeinate. Have an awesome Sunday.

  7. I don't know if I can say who the scariest person I've ever met it since I'm not generally intimidated. I will say that this weekend I was staying at a hotel and called down for extra towels. I wasn't feeling well and apparently I fell asleep, I woke up and there was a guy standing at the end of the bed. He had set the towels at the end of the other bed and I don't know exactly why, maybe he wanted a tip or something but he was just standing there, really freaked me out. I hope he wasn't standing there long.

    1. Did he work for the hotel? He left himself in? OMG. Thank goodness you were not attacked. I hope you reported the incident.

    2. He worked for the hotel and yes we reported the incident upon checkout. I didn't get the guys name because I was more worried about just getting him the Hell out of my room. My fiance told the hotel manager "that guy was lucky I didn't walk in, he would have been dead" needless to say my fiance was a bit upset.

  8. I cant think of one I have seen face to face. I have seen people in the distance that just creeped me out so I avoided them.
